Wayne began working in the Insurance field over 30 years ago. This career choice seemed natural as his family lost their Father at a young age. Beginning with kitchen-table planning with clients, much of his work now is with business owners and professionals with their insurance and corporate planning, along with group benefit and pension plans.

Wayne has been active in the community as a hockey and baseball coach in the past and has been a long-term blood donor. He’s volunteered with the Sault Area Hospital, provincially with TRANSFORM HF a digital research program created by University of Toronto and the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research, as well as Hearth & Stroke, nationally with the HeartLife Foundation and internationally with Bayer Pharmaceutical from Europe.

An avid reader, movie and music fan and now gardener, he’s a hockey fan in the winter and a golfer in the summer. Wayne is married to Gina and they have 2 adult children, Rob and Julia.

Moments That Changed Me
Not long ago I was going through some old files and it reminded me that I’ve been in this business a long time, and I've had the privilege of helping people through some incredible situations. From helping a father and daughter reconnect after 30 years to navigating mountains of paperwork for a young man who became a quadriplegic, these moments have shaped me. But there's one story that still bothers me today.

It started with a chance meeting at a golf tournament. A lawyer I met during a rain delay asked me to give him a call. Less than 2 weeks later I was sitting in his office and he explained his situation: he had a large RSP he wanted to invest and, with a baby on the way, he needed life insurance to protect his family.

We got back together a few weeks later and I showed him my presentation. He seemed to like it, but was too busy to sign the applications. We tried to connect over the next few weeks, but every time something came up. And then one morning, I got the news—he had died suddenly from a heart attack. He was only in his 30s.

I was stunned. I was frustrated. I was angry at him for not completing the applications and angry at myself for not trying harder. Two weeks later, another lawyer called in his role as Executor. "Wayne," he said, "I see you have these papers on this desk. What business did you complete with him?"

My answer was simple: "None. He was always too busy.”

He was too busy, but his family was left without the protection he wanted for them. Sadly, I see this happen all too often. The need is clear, the solution is simple, and it only takes a few minutes. But people wait. Some wait a few weeks, some for months, and some wait until it’s too late.

I’m reminded of another client's passing. When I handed his wife the insurance cheque she hugged me, looked down at it, and said through tears, "This is all I have."

These moments stay with me. They remind me why I do what I do. My job isn't just about investments or policies. It's about encouraging people to act. It's about encouraging people to make good decisions, so that when life's unexpected moments happen, their loved ones are protected.

Life doesn't wait. And neither should we."
